If you are new to a roulette game, you’ll probably face a dilemma: which bets are better – inside bets or outside bets? Indeed, if you read more about both types of bets you’ll get really confused. Inside bets have worse odds at winning, while outside bets are called sucker bets because of the smaller payouts they offer. It is better to not just cover the table with chips, but examine different types of bets with the help of free online roulette.

First of all there are no such things as good or bad bets. Any bet has its right to exist and any bet can win whether you are playing free online roulette or real money game. The key point is how much money you will have on your account when you leave the table or log off.
Inside bets are those placed inside the number grid, while outside bets are those placed on the outside area of the table.

Red or Black bets obviously mean that you predict that the ball will land on either red or black pocket. It is a bet that pays even money, so if you wager $10 and win, you will get back your bet plus $10 more. Don’t be misled by the simplicity of this bet. If you play free online roulette for a while, you’ll notice that black and red don’t really take turns. You can place your wager on black and see red coming up 12 times in a row. And it won’t save you from making another mistake, as it can turn out to be red on the 13th spin again.

It works the same way for Odd or Even and Low or High Bets. With the first two you bet on an even or odd nonzero number. With Low or High bets you’re guessing the value of the number: will it be one of the first 18 (1-18) or one of the latter high 18 (19-36).

Dozen bets, as the name implies, are bets on the 1st (1-12), 2nd (13-24) or 3rd group (25-36) of twelve numbers. There is a special area for dozen bets on the layout of any online roulette. It normally has 1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12 written on it, but sometimes you can come across P12, M12 and D12 that stand for Premier 12, Milieu 12 and Derniere 12 accordingly. These bets have payouts of 2 to 1.

Column bets are bets on all 12 numbers within each of the 3 vertical lines. To make a column, bet you have to place your chip on the space below the final number in this string. Usually there’s a box with “2 to 1″ on it and this is also how much column bet pays.

If you play free online roulette, you’ll notice that payouts for outside bets are really smaller, but you get paid more often than when you bet within the number grid. Moreover, most betting strategies are applicable to outside bets only. You will really not make a fortune with outside bets, but at least they make your money last and keep you entertained for longer.
